unclouded.ai

Our focus is on using AI where it solves a real problem:

  • Processing information
  • Searching documents
  • Transcribing media
  • Automating repetitive work
  • Improving development workflows
  • Assisting security analysis
  • Connecting modern AI to software that already exists

Production systems should be useful, maintainable, understandable and dependable. A demonstration only has to work once, in front of an audience, with a prepared example. Those are different engineering problems, and most AI disappointment comes from confusing them.

Unclouded.ai sits between traditional IT infrastructure, automation, software development and modern AI.

We are not an AI chatbot company, a GPU reseller, a cloud AI reseller or a managed hosting provider. We help organizations put AI to work while keeping control of how their information is processed.

Principles

Six things we actually hold to

These are not values-statement decoration. Each one changes what gets built, and each one occasionally costs us work.

  1. Your data has a location

Every AI system should have a clear answer to a simple question: where does the data go? We design that answer deliberately, write it down, and build the architecture that enforces it. "Probably somewhere in the vendor's cloud" is not an answer.

  2. Models should be replaceable

No organization should redesign an entire system because the best model changed. We isolate AI components wherever practical so they can evolve independently of the application around them. In a field moving this fast, anything else is a scheduled rewrite.

  3. Traditional software is still excellent

Sometimes a database query is better. Sometimes a regular expression is better. Sometimes a security scanner is better. Sometimes OCR is better. And sometimes a language model is exactly the right tool. We care about solving the problem, not about maximizing the amount of AI involved in solving it.

  4. Performance is a requirement, not a competition

A task that must complete in five seconds has completely different infrastructure requirements from one that can run overnight. We design around the actual business requirement rather than around a benchmark, which is usually the difference between a project that gets funded and one that does not.

  5. Hardware should serve the workload

We advise on hardware when it is needed, and customers purchase equipment directly. We are not in the business of making a project more expensive by selling unnecessary hardware — and being outside that business is what makes the advice worth taking.

  6. Human judgment still matters

AI systems can assist with analysis, search, summarization, classification and automation. They can also be wrong. We design workflows with verification, source attribution, confidence and human review proportionate to the consequences of the task — and we would rather tell you where a system is uncertain than ship one that never admits it.

The short version

What the business actually is

Unclouded.ai designs, deploys and manages practical AI infrastructure and workflows for organizations that need control over their data.

Our differentiation is not access to a model. Anyone can buy that. It comes from:

  • Privacy-conscious architecture
  • Local, hosted and hybrid deployment options
  • Model-independent system design
  • Replaceable processing components
  • Integration with systems you already run
  • Practical use of conventional software alongside AI
  • Right-sized hardware
  • Managed infrastructure
  • Custom workflow development
  • Long-term maintainability as the technology keeps changing

Your data. Your rules. Useful AI.

What would you use AI for if your data stayed under your control?

Tell us what you are trying to accomplish. We will help work out what should run locally, what can run elsewhere, and what technology actually makes sense.
